It’s not your fault!
I was mentored by the best small business development person in the world. Michael Gerber, author of E-Myth. That was some 28 years ago. I was a naive full of energy youth who wanted to know how business worked. I responded to an ad in a newspaper looking for a high energy person that could follow a system and learn how to help small businesses become successful.
Well, I went with much excitement to the job interview and was hired and told to come back on Monday for training. I will never forget the day, or the time or the place when HE walked in. He, Michael Gerber began to speak. His eyes were steel cold blue and fixed as if he could see right through you, I was a little nervous when he looked at me. Did he know what I did last night? How could he? He seemed to. His words pierced the business veil that was over my eyes. He said “95% of all small businesses fail in the first 5 years 90% in the first 6 months.” Wow, really? I thought can it be. He continued there are businesses like McDonald’s, IBM and other that have figured out a system. That can be duplicated, and it cranks out cash over and over day after day.
Then he spoke of the titans of business Tom Watson, Ray Croc, on and on with name I didn’t know of leaders that had the same idea. Create a system follow it over and over and over again. Teach it. Let others share in the joy of success. Now I was hooked.
He went into more detail;
Do you know that less than 1% of all McDonald’s fail? Do you know why? It’s the system. He said and then he said the most amazing sentence I have ever heard in my business career “they eliminate discretion at the operating level.”
Now if I had to pay Michael Gerber a royalty for each time I have used that phrase it would be a great revenue stream for him. Develop a system and create a revenue stream.
Ralph Waldo Emerson said “if you build a better mousetrap, the world we beat a path to your door” Yes indeed. Is there a system for the average person to build a revenue stream? Yes, there is. I have used a system for years and can duplicate it over and over again.
I have consulted to businesses for the last 28 years. I know what to look for and will show you also. Are you interested? You can stop blaming yourself and now blame the system. Phew….more to come.
